The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has extended its support to the people affected by the recent devastating floods in Assam, with SGPC President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami offering all possible assistance for relief and rehabilitation efforts.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Minister of Assam, Advocate Dhami expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and property caused by the floods and conveyed the SGPC’s solidarity with the affected families during this difficult time.
He said the large-scale displacement of people due to the floods was deeply distressing and noted that, as the apex representative body of the Sikh community, the SGPC stands with the Assam Government and the flood-hit population in the spirit of Sarbat da Bhala (welfare of all) and selfless service.
Dhami assured the Assam Government that the SGPC is prepared to extend every possible assistance in coordination with the state administration. He said volunteer teams could be deputed for relief operations as required, while the committee is also ready to provide food items, drinking water, clothing, blankets and other essential relief material.
He further stated that the SGPC is willing to organise community kitchens (langar) in the affected areas, extend financial assistance and provide any additional support needed to help those impacted by the disaster.
The SGPC President also requested the Assam Government to designate a nodal officer or department to coordinate relief efforts so that assistance and resources could reach the affected people without delay.
Meanwhile, Dhami said the SGPC is dispatching a delegation to Assam to assess the ground situation in the flood-affected areas and submit a report to facilitate further relief measures.
