Playback singer Sonu Nigam has revealed that he removed social media applications from his phone more than a year ago, saying the platforms had become a distraction and that he now prefers to focus on his health, music and personal well-being.
Sharing two videos on Instagram on the occasion of his birthday, the singer thanked fans for their warm wishes while explaining why they should not expect personal replies from him.
Nigam said he no longer has Instagram or Facebook installed on his phone, adding that he made the decision after realising he was spending too much time on social media.
“I deleted them because I was wasting a lot of time on them. I decided last year, ‘Why am I knowing what people are thinking, what they are saying, what’s going on in the world, what’s my opinion?’,” he said.
The singer added that he now prefers to concentrate on his health, fitness and regular music practice instead of keeping up with online conversations or public opinion.
“I thought that I’m old enough right now to just chill. And just bother about my own health, my own practice. I should practice, take care of my fitness, and focus on myself,” he said.
Nigam also shared that he no longer worries about what people think or say about him, describing himself as being in a phase of surrender and spiritual contentment.
“I don’t even want to know what people are saying about me or what they are thinking about me. I’m already in surrender mode. I’ve got in touch with God. I’m in a very happy zone,” he said.
Expressing gratitude to his fans, the singer said he deeply appreciates the birthday wishes sent to him, even though he may not be able to respond individually because he no longer accesses social media through his phone.
