Delhi High Court Grants Interim Relief to Yuvraj Singh in Personality Rights Case

New Delhi, July 29, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

The Delhi High Court on Wednesday granted interim relief to former India cricketer Yuvraj Singh in a personality rights lawsuit, directing the removal of specific online content that allegedly infringes his name, image and identity, while declining to issue a blanket injunction against future uploads.

Passing an interim order, Justice Jyoti Singh directed the uploaders of the URLs identified in the suit to remove the allegedly infringing content within 48 hours.

The court further said that if the uploaders fail to comply within the stipulated period, Yuvraj Singh would be at liberty to approach the concerned intermediary platforms, which would then be required to take down the content within 36 hours.

However, the High Court clarified that the interim relief would be limited to the specific URLs mentioned in the suit and refused to pass a broader order requiring online platforms to remove similar or future content automatically.

“For now, I am directing the takedown of the URLs that are part of the suit. If anything else comes up, file an application, and I will extend the injunction after seeing that it is infringing,” Justice Singh observed during the hearing.

The court also noted that intermediary platforms cannot be expected to independently determine whether future content amounts to infringement.

“Who decides if it is similar content? It is a big debate. They are not adjudicators. They cannot decide infringing content,” the judge remarked while declining to issue a blanket direction.

Yuvraj Singh has approached the High Court seeking protection of his personality and publicity rights against the alleged unauthorised commercial use of his name, image, likeness and identity across digital platforms. His petition also raises concerns over the sale of allegedly infringing merchandise and unauthorised content on platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Flipkart and Amazon.

The case is part of a growing number of personality rights disputes before the Delhi High Court, with several public figures, including cricketers, actors, spiritual leaders and other prominent personalities, seeking judicial protection against the unauthorised use of their identity, likeness and AI-generated imitations.
