Indian travellers can now use the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) to book tickets online for At the Top, Burj Khalifa, making the iconic attraction the first in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to accept UPI for e-commerce transactions.
The facility has been launched through a partnership between NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL), the international arm of the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), NEOPAY and Emaar Entertainment.
With the new integration, Indian visitors can purchase tickets and book experiences at the world’s tallest building through the attraction’s official website using UPI-enabled payment applications before departing for the UAE.
The latest development expands NIPL’s existing collaboration with NEOPAY. Since the introduction of QR code-based UPI merchant payments in the UAE in 2022, Indian travellers have been able to make in-store payments across merchants connected to NEOPAY’s network. The new rollout extends UPI acceptance to online transactions.
Ritesh Shukla, Managing Director and CEO of NPCI International, said Indian travellers increasingly prefer payment methods that are familiar and convenient while travelling overseas.
“By enabling UPI acceptance for online bookings at At the Top, Burj Khalifa, we are making it easier for them to use a payment method they know and trust while planning their visit, even before they arrive in the UAE,” he said.
According to NIPL, the initiative is aimed at meeting the growing demand for seamless cross-border digital payment solutions while strengthening the digital payments ecosystem between India and the UAE.
Vibhor Mundhada, CEO of NEOPAY, described the integration as a significant milestone in digital commerce between the two countries, adding that it makes NEOPAY the first company in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region to enable UPI acceptance for e-commerce transactions.
An Emaar Entertainment spokesperson said the move would simplify the booking process for Indian tourists, who represent one of the largest international visitor groups at the Burj Khalifa attraction.
