Thousands Gather at Srinagar’s Hazratbal Shrine to Mark Prophet’s Birthday

Srinagar, August 26, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Thousands of devotees gathered at the Hazratbal shrine in Srinagar on Wednesday to offer prayers and mark Eid-e-Milad, commemorating the birthday of Prophet Muhammad.

Devotees from different parts of the Kashmir Valley began arriving at the shrine from Tuesday evening. Men, women and children spent the night in prayers, seeking peace, good health, prosperity and happiness.

Hazratbal is regarded as the holiest Muslim shrine in Jammu and Kashmir and houses a revered relic believed by devotees to be a hair of the Prophet’s beard. The relic was displayed to worshippers after the morning prayers on Wednesday.

The relic will continue to be displayed after each namaz until Friday evening, allowing devotees visiting the shrine during the period to pay their respects.

During the gathering, devotees recited Daroud, praising the Prophet, while offering prayers to Allah. The shrine witnessed participation from people belonging to different sections of Kashmiri society.

Authorities made arrangements for transportation, healthcare, drinking water and security to facilitate the large gathering of devotees at Hazratbal.

The Valley has four other locations where relics associated with the Prophet are housed, but the Hazratbal relic holds particular religious significance among devotees.

Eid-e-Milad is observed in India in honour of the Prophet’s birth and is marked by religious gatherings and prayers.

The occasion is also associated with Mehraj-e-Alam, the Islamic tradition commemorating the Prophet’s ascension to heaven and return to earth.
