Television actress Shubhangi Atre marked Onam by sharing a colourful glimpse of her Kerala experience, taking fans through the state’s rich traditions, art forms, cuisine and festive spirit.
The actress shared a series of photographs from her visit on social media, capturing Kerala’s cultural heritage through its traditional performances and vibrant visual elements.
Several pictures feature Shubhangi with Kathakali performers, offering glimpses of the elaborate costumes, distinctive makeup and expressive style associated with the classical dance-drama form. In one photograph, she poses between two Kathakali artistes, while other images show performers in action.
Her photo carousel also includes glimpses of Kalaripayattu, Kerala’s traditional martial art, along with colourful floral arrangements and other aspects of the state’s cultural landscape.
“Kerala through my eyes — a beautiful tapestry of tradition, art, colors, and flavors. From the mesmerizing expressions of Kathakali and the powerful grace of Kalaripayattu, to vibrant rangoli patterns and the irresistible flavors of Kerala cuisine… every moment felt like a celebration of culture and life. Such a blissful journey, filled with moments I’ll cherish forever,” Shubhangi wrote in her caption.
The post came as Kerala celebrates Onam, the state’s harvest festival, and reflected the actress’s experience of exploring its traditions and cultural heritage.
Shubhangi has been a familiar face on Indian television for nearly two decades. She began her acting career with Kasautii Zindagii Kay before gaining recognition for her titular role in Ektaa Kapoor’s Kasturi, opposite Karan Patel.
She subsequently appeared in shows including Havan, Chidiya Ghar, Adhuri Kahaani Hamari and Do Hanson Ka Jodaa. Her biggest television breakthrough came with Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain!, in which she became widely known for playing Angoori Bhabhi.
Shubhangi took over the character from Shilpa Shinde and portrayed the role for nearly a decade. Her casting came amid the controversy surrounding Shinde’s exit from the show, leading to comparisons between the two actresses. Shubhangi has maintained that she concentrated on developing her own interpretation of Angoori Bhabhi rather than replicating Shinde’s portrayal.
After nearly 10 years with Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain!, Shubhangi announced her exit from the show in 2025.
On the personal front, she married Piyush Poorey in 2003, and they have a daughter, Ashi. The couple later separated, with Shubhangi publicly confirming the separation in 2023.
