Actor Bhuvan Bam, who portrays freedom fighter Rash Behari Bose in the upcoming streaming series The Revolutionaries, said the show goes beyond a conventional freedom struggle narrative to explore conflict, conviction and a brotherhood forged through shared sacrifice.
The trailer of the series was unveiled on Wednesday. Inspired by true events and set against the backdrop of India’s freedom struggle, the show follows four young revolutionaries who take on the British Raj through armed resistance.
Speaking about his role, Bam said Rash Behari Bose’s reputation as a master of disguise and the limited archival material available about him gave him the opportunity to develop the character largely through instinct.
“What excited me about ‘The Revolutionaries’ was that it isn’t a conventional freedom-fighter drama. It’s a story about four young heroes fighting for what they believe in, while navigating conflicts and a brotherhood forged in blood,” Bam said.
He described Bose as a “behrupiya” who infiltrated British camps and said director Nikkhil Advani’s clarity and conviction gave him the confidence to explore the mystery surrounding the revolutionary.
The series stars Bam alongside Rohit Saraf, Pratibha Ranta and Gurfateh Pirzada in lead roles, with Jason Shah, Paoli Dam and Tota Roy Chowdhury in key parts.
The trailer introduces Bam as Rash Behari Bose, Saraf as Sachindra Nath Sanyal, Ranta as Pratibha Lahiri and Pirzada as Bagha Jatin. Jason Shah plays General Dyer, who remains a formidable threat as the revolutionaries pursue their fight against British rule.
Saraf said portraying Sachindra Nath Sanyal required intensive physical and emotional preparation. He described the revolutionary as a real-life hero whose childlike innocence and unwavering conviction made the character relatable even today.
Ranta said her character, Pratibha Lahiri, is a young and progressive woman struggling to make herself heard in a male-dominated world. She said the character was developed to remain grounded and human while depicting her journey towards finding her voice and joining the revolutionary movement.
The Revolutionaries is set to stream on Prime Video.
