Music composer Amaal Mallik has hit out at what he described as “dirty games” and negative publicity within the film and music industry, following the release of his song ‘Yeh Awarapan’ from Emraan Hashmi-starrer ‘Awarapan 2’.
Taking to Instagram on Wednesday, Amaal penned a strongly worded note, saying he was not interested in competing with others or relying on marketing budgets to establish his identity. He argued that his music has connected with listeners because people have experienced their lives through his songs.
Calling his compositions deeply personal, Amaal wrote, “MY SONGS are my BABIES, and TRUST me when I say I’m a DANGEROUS DAD.”
He said ‘Yeh Awarapan’, released three weeks ago, represented the best work he could create with complete conviction. Amaal also recalled that his father had been deeply moved by the song and felt proud of his work.
Urging others in the industry to concentrate on original music and building their own legacy, the composer said artistic expression should take precedence over data and algorithms.
“Data is GREAT, but ART will always come before the ALGORITHM,” he wrote.
Amaal also addressed criticism surrounding ‘Yeh Awarapan’, particularly suggestions that the song contains traces of songs from the first instalment of the ‘Awarapan’ franchise. He defended the creative conviction behind the track and argued that the legacy of the original 2007 film had endured despite its initial box-office performance.
Referring to ‘Awarapan’, he wrote that a “SUPER FLOP FILM” had eventually become a cult favourite nearly two decades later, describing it as proof that “SOUL and SELF-BELIEF” can outlast trends.
Amaal also questioned the role of corporate bookings and alleged manipulation of digital views and clicks, while stressing that he hoped ‘Awarapan 2’ would achieve greater success.
Concluding his post, the composer said the criticism had not affected his legacy or his song.
“They tried to BURY us but didn’t realise that we were SEEDS,” he wrote.
