Punjab Finance Minister and Cabinet Sub-Committee chairman on employee issues Harpal Singh Cheema held a series of meetings with representatives of several employee unions on Wednesday and directed concerned departments to speed up action on their legitimate demands.
The meetings, held at Cheema’s office, lasted around three hours. The minister said the Bhagwant Mann government was committed to addressing employee concerns and that action on most major demands was already under process.
“The Bhagwant Mann government is deeply sympathetic to your causes. Action on most of your major demands is already under process,” Cheema told the union representatives.
During the discussions, Cheema directed the Transport, Education, Animal Husbandry and Finance departments to consider legitimate demands sympathetically and expedite the necessary action for their resolution.
The delegations raised issues primarily concerning regularisation of contractual employees, shifting outsourced workers to direct departmental contracts and resolving pay-parity discrepancies.
Representatives of the Joint Action Committee of Vets for Pay-Parity included Dr Puneet Malhotra, Dr Abdul Majid, Dr Gurdeep Singh Kaler, Dr Harmandeep Singh and Dr Rajinder Singh.
The Punjab Roadways PUNBUS/PRTC Contract Workers Union was represented by Resham Singh Gill, Shamsher Singh, Harkesh Kumar, Rohi Ram, Baljit Singh, Balwinder Singh Rath, Jagjit Singh and Jatinder Singh.
Harminder Singh, Lakhwinder Singh Mahdawan and Bachittar Singh represented the Punjab Roadways (PUNBUS) State Transport Workers Union.
The A.I.E. Kacche Adhiyapak Union delegation comprised Tejinder Kaur, Karaminder Singh, Inderjit Handa and Kiranjit Kaur, while Lakhvir Singh Siriyewala, Manjit Singh and Lakhvir Singh represented the United Physical Education of Punjab.
The Berozgar Sanjha Morcha was represented by Raman Kumar Malout, Amandeep Singh, Sukhwinder Singh, Sandeep Mofar and Harjinder Singh.
Vikas Sahni, Lakhwinder Kaur and Varun Khera attended on behalf of the Murh Bahal Kacche Adhiyapak Union.
Cheema assured the employee representatives that their concerns would be taken up with the respective departments and that efforts would be made to ensure swift action on demands found legitimate under the applicable rules and procedures.
