Prime Minister Narendra Modi will return to Delhi University’s prestigious Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) on Saturday, nearly 13 years after his previous visit, to participate in the institution’s centenary celebrations and address the gathering, according to an official statement.
Modi had last visited SRCC in 2013, when he was serving as the Chief Minister of Gujarat. He became Prime Minister a year later in 2014.
His return comes as SRCC marks 100 years since its establishment and reflects on its contribution to education and the development of generations of students.
During his 2013 visit, then Gujarat Chief Minister Modi delivered one of his early major public addresses in New Delhi. He spoke about leadership and his approach of examining issues from a different perspective.
Using a glass of water as an example, Modi contrasted conventional optimistic and pessimistic viewpoints. While an optimist would see the glass as half full and a pessimist as half empty, he said he preferred a “third perspective” — that the glass was completely full, half with water and half with air.
His return to the college comes amid increasing political focus on engaging younger voters, particularly Gen Z, and adapting communication strategies to their evolving interests and expectations.
The event is scheduled to begin around 7 p.m. on the SRCC campus, where Modi will also speak about the institution’s century-long journey and its contribution to education.
Founded in 1926 by industrialist and philanthropist Sir Shri Ram, SRCC is regarded as one of India’s premier institutions for higher education, particularly in Commerce, Economics and Management. Over the past century, it has contributed to the development of scholars, professionals, administrators, entrepreneurs, policymakers and other nation-builders.
