Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman held a series of meetings with senior executives of global companies in New York, highlighting investment opportunities emerging in India’s rapidly expanding digital infrastructure sector.
During her meeting with Sanjeev Ahuja, Chairman and CEO of Tillman Holdings, Sitharaman said India’s policy framework, including recent Budget announcements, is facilitating investment in digital infrastructure. She pointed to rapid expansion in artificial intelligence, cloud computing, digital services and enterprise technology, which is driving sustained demand for data centres, high-capacity networks and reliable power infrastructure.
The discussions also covered opportunities to develop large-scale, resilient and sustainable digital infrastructure campuses.
In a separate meeting with Marsh Re CEO Dean Klisura and Devanshu Dhyani, head of strategy and corporate development, Sitharaman highlighted India’s large domestic market, skilled workforce, expanding infrastructure, digital capabilities and reform-oriented business environment as key advantages for global professional services and risk-management companies.
She cited India’s real GDP growth of 7.8 per cent in the first quarter of FY2026-27 as evidence of the country’s strong economic performance.
The Marsh Re team appreciated the government’s reform orientation and said the company was keen to expand its presence in India, particularly given what it described as a level playing field and an informed regulator, the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI).
Marsh Re also said it had strengthened its focus on GIFT City and was increasing engagement with its financial ecosystem across products and services.
Sitharaman also met Alejandro Perez, Group COO of BNY Mellon, with discussions focusing on India’s growth trajectory and opportunities for greater investment by global financial institutions.
Perez reaffirmed BNY Mellon’s long-term commitment to India, describing the country as a critical market in the company’s global operations and growth strategy. He also highlighted its collaboration with institutions including IITs to develop high-quality talent.
According to the discussion, BNY Mellon’s India operations are increasingly evolving beyond a delivery centre into a strategic global hub for innovation, technology and advanced capabilities, including AI.
The meeting also covered India’s financial ecosystem, Digital Public Infrastructure, Global Capability Centres and GIFT City-IFSC. Sitharaman invited the BNY Mellon team to visit GIFT-IFSC and explore the range of products and services available there.
