The torch of ‘Khedan Vatan Punjab Dian-2026’ received an enthusiastic welcome in Moga on Friday as part of the Punjab Government’s efforts to strengthen the sports culture in the state, encourage youth participation in sports and provide athletes with greater opportunities to showcase their talent.

The torch march was led in Dhudike by Nihal Singh Wala MLA Manjit Singh Bilaspur, while Moga MLA Dr Amandeep Kaur Arora and Deputy Commissioner Sagar Setia welcomed and led the torch during its programme in Moga city.

Addressing the gathering at Dhudike, Manjit Singh Bilaspur said Punjab has consistently produced outstanding sportspersons for the country and the world. He said the initiatives being undertaken by the Punjab Government to provide a platform to young sporting talent were yielding encouraging results.

The torch subsequently entered Moga city through Joginder Singh Chowk and reached Bhupindra Khalsa Senior Secondary School, where a district-level function was organised. Dr Amandeep Kaur Arora and Deputy Commissioner Sagar Setia attended the event and formally welcomed the torch.

Dr Arora said the government’s initiatives to promote sports were providing young people across Punjab with a large platform to demonstrate their abilities.

She said ‘Khedan Vatan Punjab Dian’ had generated renewed enthusiasm for sports from villages to cities, with an increasing number of young people participating in the sporting events.

Deputy Commissioner Sagar Setia said block-level competitions in Moga district would be held from September 9 to 18, with the district administration making the necessary arrangements to ensure their smooth conduct.

He said athletes could register for the competitions through the Punjab Sports Department’s official portal and urged youngsters to make sports an important part of their lives and participate in ‘Khedan Vatan Punjab Dian-2026’ in large numbers.

The torch will leave Godhevala Indoor Stadium in Moga on September 5 for village Tharaj, from where it will proceed to Bathinda district.

The event highlighted the state government’s focus on expanding grassroots sports participation and encouraging young athletes to pursue sporting opportunities across Punjab.
