Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday announced plans to develop Braj Bhoomi on the lines of Ayodhya and Kashi, saying a grand complex would be developed in Mathura and Vrindavan in view of the region’s spiritual and cultural significance.
Addressing devotees at the Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi temple complex after offering prayers and darshan on Shri Krishna Janmashtami, Adityanath said the BJP-led “double-engine government” would make every effort to ensure the comprehensive development of Braj.
“After the grand development of Ayodhya and Kashi, Braj Bhoomi will now also be developed in accordance with the sentiments of the people. The double-engine government will leave no stone unturned in this regard. Given the spiritual and cultural significance of Braj Bhoomi, we will develop a grand complex here, similar to those in Ayodhya and Kashi,” he said.
The Chief Minister also criticised previous governments, alleging that they had avoided visiting Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi because of concerns over their vote bank.
He said the BJP government had faith in the country’s major religious traditions and alleged that followers of historical figures Babar and Aurangzeb were again attempting to create social divisions.
Adityanath said such attempts would not be allowed to succeed and accused those behind them of seeking to undermine social harmony, public security and the interests of youth, women, farmers and artisans.
Highlighting the transformation of Ayodhya, the Chief Minister said the temple town had previously faced inadequate roads, electricity and water supply, poor sanitation and limited railway connectivity.
He said the situation had changed significantly, with Ayodhya now witnessing large numbers of devotees every day. According to Adityanath, around one lakh devotees visit Ayodhya Dham daily, while the numbers rise substantially during festivals and major religious events, including Ram Navami, Kartik month celebrations, Sawan Jhula Mela and Deepotsav.
He cited the construction of an international airport named after Maharishi Valmiki, four-lane roads connecting Ayodhya from different directions and the doubling of the railway line as examples of the city’s transformation. Roads including Bhaktipath and Rampath have also been developed, he said.
Recalling the history of Ayodhya, Adityanath said attempts by foreign invaders to undermine people’s faith in Lord Ram had failed, claiming that the construction of the Ram temple represented the continued strength of that faith.
Referring to his visit to Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi, the Chief Minister recalled the association of Yogmaya with Mathura and Vindhyavasini Dham. He said faith in Yogmaya had also contributed to the development of the Vindhyavasini Dham complex.
Adityanath directed officials to ensure adequate facilities for devotees visiting Barsana, Nandgaon, Govardhan and Mathura-Vrindavan.
He said devotees should be able to travel conveniently, have darshan without difficulty and return safely, stressing that their religious sentiments should be respected.
The Chief Minister also linked religious festivals with economic activity, saying celebrations create opportunities for people from different sections of society, including youth, women, artisans and handicraft workers.
Invoking the teachings of Lord Krishna, Adityanath called upon people to perform their duties sincerely without being overly concerned about the outcome.
He quoted the Bhagavad Gita verse, “Karmanyevadhikaraste Ma Phaleshu Kadachana”, emphasising the importance of discharging one’s responsibilities towards the country, society and family.
Adityanath said India’s independence had enabled people to celebrate their religious festivals freely and noted that large numbers of devotees had been arriving in Mathura-Vrindavan since Thursday for Janmashtami celebrations.
He said development combined with heritage was strengthening confidence among youth, women and artisans, while better infrastructure and security were helping create an environment for economic opportunities.
The Chief Minister said the government was working to combine heritage conservation with development and expressed confidence that Braj Bhoomi would gain further momentum through events and initiatives such as Janmotsav, Rangotsav, Brajraj Utsav and Vaishnav Kumbh.
“Our faith is equally important for a Viksit Bharat. I have come here to respect our heritage on the occasion of Shri Krishna Janmashtami,” he said.
Adityanath also extended his greetings and best wishes to the people of Uttar Pradesh on the occasion of Janmashtami.
