Former child actor Gazala Salmin has recalled her experience of working with Shah Rukh Khan in the 1994 film Anjaam, sharing how the superstar made her feel comfortable on the sets despite playing a frightening antagonist in the movie.
Gazala, who played Pinky Chopra, the on-screen daughter of Madhuri Dixit’s character, Shivani Chopra, shared a behind-the-scenes anecdote in a video posted on social media.
Recalling the film’s Mauritius schedule, she said she was very young when she worked with Shah Rukh and remembered his affectionate behaviour off camera.
She said Shah Rukh would hug her whenever he came on set and described him as “a sweetheart” behind the camera. While his character in Anjaam frightened her as a child, she said the actor’s off-screen warmth helped her feel at ease.
Gazala also recalled filming an action sequence involving Shah Rukh’s character and a car. She said it was her first stunt scene and involved her body being thrown into the air after a collision.
According to Gazala, the sequence was shot repeatedly during an evening schedule. She said she performed the stunt without a harness but remained safe and was not injured despite having to repeat the jump several times.
Directed by Rahul Rawail, Anjaam starred Shah Rukh Khan as Vijay Agnihotri and Madhuri Dixit as Shivani Chopra, with Gazala playing Pinky. The film marked the first on-screen pairing of Shah Rukh and Madhuri.
Gazala, popularly credited as Baby Gazala, went on to work extensively as a child artist through the 1990s and early 2000s. Her film credits include Imtihaan, Raghuveer, Raja, Sarhad: The Border of Crime, Bambai Ka Babu, Tamanna, Aarzoo, Kahin Pyaar Na Ho Jaaye, One 2 Ka 4 and Sur: The Melody of Life.
She also appeared on television in shows including Rishtey, Mano Ya Na Mano, Kasautii Zindagii Kay, Darna Mana Hai and Baalveer.
