HarperCollins India on Friday announced that it will publish Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi’s memoir, Belonging: A Journey of Love, with the book scheduled for release on November 10, 2026.
The announcement comes days after controversy surrounding the publication of the memoir, which was earlier associated with Penguin India amid reports of disagreements over editorial changes.
HarperCollins India announced the publication in a post on X, describing Belonging: A Journey of Love as one of the most anticipated political memoirs and a deeply personal account of love, identity, duty and belonging.
“The long-awaited memoir will be published in India on 10 November 2026,” the publishing house said.
Penguin Random House India had earlier clarified that it was not the publisher of Belonging in India. Responding to reports that it had decided against publishing the book because Gandhi declined proposed editorial changes, the publisher said the suggestion did not accurately reflect the circumstances.
Penguin said fact-checking and making editorial recommendations were part of its normal publishing responsibilities and maintained that it had remained willing to publish the memoir. It declined to comment further on confidential discussions with the author.
An Amazon description of the book presents it as a memoir blending the personal and political, focusing on love, family and India.
The book traces Sonia Gandhi’s journey from her early life in Italy to India, beginning with her time as a 19-year-old student in Cambridge in 1965, where she met Rajiv Gandhi, grandson of India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.
The memoir is expected to offer personal reflections on Sonia Gandhi’s life, family and political journey, as well as her relationship with India.
