Punjab government has provided Rs 5 lakh in insurance assistance to the family of journalist Devinder Singh, who died in a road accident in Mohali earlier this year.
MLA Jagtar Singh Diyalpura visited Devinder Singh’s residence in Shamsapur village near Samrala in Ludhiana district and handed over the insurance amount cheque to his mother, Jaspal Kaur, and father, Balkar Singh, on behalf of the Punjab government.
Expressing his condolences to the bereaved family, Diyalpura said Devinder Singh’s sudden death was deeply unfortunate and that the Punjab government stood with his family during the difficult period.
He said the state government remained committed to the welfare of the journalist community and the well-being and security of their families. The insurance assistance, he added, would provide some financial support to the family as it copes with the loss.
The occasion was attended by Prof. Avtar Singh, in-charge of Ajit newspaper’s Mohali district and Chandigarh sub-office, journalist Jasbir Singh Jassi from Mohali, and District Public Relations Officer, Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, Ravi Inder Singh.
Devinder Singh, who was posted in Mohali as a journalist with Ajit Web TV, died in a road accident in February this year. The Rs 5 lakh assistance has been provided to his family under the Punjab government’s Journalist Welfare and Insurance Scheme.
