Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the 57th Convocation Ceremony of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi on Saturday as the chief guest and address more than 3,000 graduating students.
The convocation, scheduled to begin at 11 a.m., will see over 3,000 students, including 587 PhD scholars, receive their degrees. Modi will also confer IIT Delhi’s prestigious academic honours on meritorious students for outstanding performance.
The honours include the President’s Gold Medal, Director’s Gold Medal, Shankar Dayal Sharma Gold Medal and Perfect Ten Gold Medal.
A key highlight of the ceremony will be the inauguration of “Param Pragya”, an AI-powered high-performance supercomputing facility at IIT Delhi’s Sonipat campus. The facility is expected to enhance the institute’s capabilities in artificial intelligence, data science, advanced computing and interdisciplinary research.
The facility is part of broader efforts to strengthen India’s high-performance computing infrastructure and advance research in emerging technologies. The Department of Science and Technology has identified Param Pragya as an AI-based supercomputing facility at IIT Delhi’s Sonepat campus.
IIT Delhi Director Rangan Banerjee, speaking at a press conference in New Delhi on Friday, said the Prime Minister would present the institute’s highest academic honours to outstanding students.
Banerjee also highlighted a new national academic and research collaboration network established by IIT Delhi through Memoranda of Understanding with 18 National Institutes of Technology across the country.
