Member of Parliament Dr Raj Kumar Chabbewal has sought the early re-awarding and commencement of the four-laning project for the existing two-lane Ghuman–Sri Hargobindpur–Tanda stretch of NH-503A, urging Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari to personally intervene in expediting the process.
Dr Chabbewal raised the issue during a meeting with Gadkari and sought speedy approval of the revised Detailed Project Report (DPR), which would enable the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to invite fresh tenders for the long-pending project.
The project covers the 43.400-km to 85.788-km section under Package-2. It had earlier been awarded to a contractor, but the contract was subsequently terminated by NHAI due to the non-availability of possession of acquired land in Gurdaspur district.
Dr Chabbewal informed the Union Minister that a revised DPR has now been prepared and submitted to the competent NHAI authority. He requested that the necessary approvals be expedited so that the project can be re-awarded and construction work started without further delay.
The MP highlighted the importance of the highway section for improving connectivity in the region, besides ensuring smoother and safer movement of commuters. He also pointed to increasing traffic and the developmental requirements of the adjoining areas, stressing the need for early completion of the four-laning project.
Gadkari assured Dr Chabbewal that he would personally look into the matter and take necessary steps for an early resolution. He also assured that efforts would be made to facilitate the project at the earliest.
