No Cash, No Recommendations: CM Bhagwant Mann Hands Appointment Letters to 866 Youth in Mohali

Mohali, August 8, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Saturday handed over appointment letters to 866 youth in Mohali, taking the number of government jobs provided by the state government in the last four-and-a-half years to 69,094.

Mann said the recruitment process had been made transparent and merit-based, claiming that cash and political recommendations, which he alleged were required under previous governments, had no role in appointments made by his government.

The 866 appointments include 636 posts in the Health and Family Welfare Department, comprising 614 Staff Nurses, three Pharmacists, 13 Multi-purpose Health Workers (Male), two Ward Attendants, one Class-IV employee and three Sweepers. Another 101 candidates have been appointed in Sugarfed, 57 as Junior Auditors, 51 in the Defence Services Welfare Department, 11 in the Cooperation Department and 10 as Law Officers in the Home Department.

Sharing details of the event on X, Mann said the government had provided 69,094 jobs with “complete transparency”. He said confidence among Punjab’s youth in the recruitment system had increased while the trend of migration abroad had declined.

“Hard work and dedication have been the sole criteria for selection. Gone are the days when jobs were given on the basis of bribery or recommendations,” Mann said, adding that appointments were being made on merit, transparency and fairness without political influence.

The Chief Minister alleged that previous governments had indulged in corruption and favouritism while providing jobs to their “near and dear ones”. He said talented Punjabi youth had earlier been compelled to move abroad, but his government had worked to create employment opportunities in villages, towns and cities since assuming power in 2022.

Mann also linked employment with the government’s initiatives in school education. He said Punjab had improved its ranking in school education from 27th position when he assumed office to the top position in the country.

He said 882 government school students cleared NEET in 2026, compared with 80 in 2021. According to Mann, government school teachers have been sent to Singapore, Finland and IIM Ahmedabad for training, while schools have received new furniture, IT-enabled teaching facilities, libraries and improved sanitation. Campus managers have also been appointed.

“Education is the key that can pull people out of this vicious circle by raising their standard of living,” Mann said, arguing that free schemes or concession cards alone could not eliminate poverty and social problems.

He said children from ordinary families should receive equal opportunities to succeed and praised the performance of girl students in education and competitive examinations.

Mann also claimed that some young candidates had secured government jobs more than once in different departments, which he said reflected the credibility and competitiveness of the recruitment process.

Congratulating the new recruits, he urged them to remain humble, continue working hard and use their positions to serve the public, particularly needy and underprivileged sections.

“You have now become an integral part of the Government family. Use your pen to help the needy and underprivileged sections of society and ensure maximum welfare of the public,” he said.

Mann said the newly appointed employees should use the opportunity not only to build successful careers but also to contribute to society and the development of Punjab.
