Vice President JD Vance Calls PM Modi, Discusses Ways to Deepen India-US Strategic Partnership

New Delhi, August 8, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday spoke with US Vice President JD Vance over the phone, with the two leaders discussing ways to further strengthen the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership across key areas.

During the conversation, PM Modi also congratulated Vance and his wife, Usha Vance, on the birth of their son and conveyed his best wishes to the family.

“Received a phone call from US Vice-President JD Vance. We discussed ways to further deepen India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership across key areas. Warmly congratulated him and the Second Lady on the birth of their son and conveyed best wishes to the entire family,” Modi said in a post on X.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the two leaders noted the continued momentum in high-level engagements between India and the US and reiterated their commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation in several strategic sectors.

“They noted the sustained momentum in the high-level engagements and reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening cooperation in trade, defence, critical and emerging technologies, energy security and critical minerals,” the PMO said.

Modi and Vance also exchanged views on regional and global developments of mutual interest.

The conversation comes amid renewed efforts by New Delhi and Washington to advance key areas of their strategic partnership.

In July, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar agreed to accelerate work on key defence agreements and move towards concluding an interim bilateral trade deal, which Washington had described as being “almost complete”.

Rubio and Jaishankar held talks in Manila on the sidelines of the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ meetings, where they also reviewed developments in the Middle East and the Indo-Pacific.

US State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott said the two leaders discussed recent developments in both regions as well as progress in defence cooperation.

The State Department readout said Rubio and Jaishankar discussed finalising key defence agreements in fulfilment of commitments made by US President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Modi last year.
