Three contractual nursing staff members who had climbed a nearly 90-foot-high water tank at the Jaipuria Hospital complex in Jaipur to press for recruitment and service-related demands ended their protest on Saturday after receiving assurances from Rajasthan Health Department officials.
A delegation representing contractual nursing staff will meet Health Department Principal Secretary Gayatri Rathore on August 10 to discuss their demands.
Rakesh Sharma, Director of Health (Non-Gazetted), reached the protest site in the Bajaj Nagar police station area at around 6 p.m. and held talks with the protesters. Following his assurance that their concerns would be discussed, the three employees climbed down safely.
They were subsequently taken to Jaipuria Hospital for medical examination.
Vimal Sharma, 32, Robin Sharma, 28, and Sanjita Chaudhary, 30, had climbed the water tank at around 3.40 a.m. on Friday and remained there until Saturday evening.

During the protest, the three had threatened to take an extreme step. They also claimed to have a bottle of petrol and heightened tension by setting a piece of cloth on fire on top of the tank.
Police and Civil Defence personnel remained deployed at the site throughout the protest while officials attempted to persuade them to come down safely. Police also removed contractual workers who had gathered at the base of the tank in support of the protesters.
The nursing staff claimed that thousands of healthcare workers had been serving the Rajasthan Medical and Health Department under various schemes and contractual arrangements for several years but had not received the benefits available to regular government employees.
According to the protesters, employees engaged under the National Health Mission, National Rural Health Mission, contractual and tender-based appointments, Urgent Temporary Basis, placement agencies, PPP arrangements, MRS, NGOs, 108 ambulance services, 104-Mamta, MMU, MMV and Janata Clinics, among others, have served for eight to 10 years or more.
They alleged that despite their prolonged service, many workers continue to remain contractual and have not received the benefits associated with regular government appointments.
The protesters said they would continue pursuing their demands through dialogue with the state government, with the next meeting scheduled for August 10.
