Chandigarh MP and former Union Minister Manish Tewari on Saturday inaugurated a new park in Sector 63, developed through his MPLAD funds, and called for a comprehensive legal framework to safeguard the physical and mental well-being of senior citizens.
Tewari said the park had been designed as an urban sath—a traditional community gathering space where elderly residents could meet, interact, pursue recreational activities and maintain an active social life conducive to their health and longevity.
Addressing residents at the inauguration, Tewari said India was witnessing a rapidly ageing population alongside a large demographic base, making it necessary to strengthen institutional and legal support for senior and super-senior citizens.
He said elderly people who had devoted their lives to their families and contributed to the country’s development deserved a holistic support system covering both their physical and mental well-being.
Tewari urged both the Central and state governments to establish an appropriate legal architecture to ensure the welfare and dignity of senior citizens.
During the programme, the MP also interacted with local residents and sought their views on issues concerning their well-being, Chandigarh’s development and broader national progress.

Tiwari, Gurpartap Singh Bhatti, Shiraz Sharma and Sukhwinder Singh, RWA-3 (BHK) President Paramjit Singh Bainipal, and RWA-1 (BHK) President Jagbir Singh Rathi were among those present.
