Delhi Police Warn Against Fake Social Media Content; Crime Branch STF Formed for Paper Leak Cases

New Delhi, July 25, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

The Delhi Police on Saturday cautioned people against believing or sharing unverified content on social media platforms, warning that fake news, deepfake videos and AI-generated material could disrupt law and order.

Addressing a press conference, DCP Central Rohit Rajbir Singh said the police were closely monitoring social media activity, particularly during student protests at Jantar Mantar organised under the banner of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP).

He said social media had become a major source of information for young people, but several misleading posts and manipulated videos were also being circulated, making fact-checking essential before sharing any content.

“Not every post, video or photo uploaded on social media is genuine,” Singh said, urging citizens to verify information through reliable sources.

The officer said Delhi Police had been tracking fake news, AI-generated videos, deepfake content and edited clips circulating online. He cited several instances where false claims were allegedly made during the protests, including claims of a protester’s death due to police action on July 20 and a video suggesting authorities were planning a crackdown on demonstrators at Jantar Mantar.

Singh said investigations had found several Pakistan-based social media accounts involved in spreading misleading content related to the protests. More than 400 such accounts had been identified and blocked for allegedly sharing AI-generated material, deepfake videos, edited images and misinformation, he added.

He also referred to fake videos involving climate activist Sonam Wangchuk and a fabricated statement attributed to Lt General Rajeev Puri, DGMO, regarding Army deployment in Delhi.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Police has constituted a Special Task Force (STF) under the Crime Branch to investigate examination irregularities and paper leak cases. The team will be headed by a DCP-rank officer and supervised by the Special Commissioner of Police (Crime), Singh said.

The police also thanked peaceful protesters and volunteers at Jantar Mantar for cooperating with authorities in maintaining law and order.
