As India gears up for the FIH Hockey Men’s World Cup 2026 in Belgium and the Netherlands, a new generation of players is preparing to make its mark alongside the team’s experienced campaigners.
The 20-member Indian squad features promising youngsters, including goalkeeper Mohith HS, defender Yashdeep Siwach, and midfielders Rajinder Singh and Aditya Arjun Lalage, who are expected to play key roles during the tournament.
Attacking midfielder Aditya Arjun Lalage described his World Cup selection as the fulfilment of a childhood dream. The 23-year-old said his focus is on making the most of the opportunity by contributing to the team in every possible way. He credited the guidance of senior players and coaches for boosting his confidence.
Midfielder Rajinder Singh highlighted the strong bond within the squad, saying teamwork and mutual support, both on and off the field, are among India’s biggest strengths heading into the competition.
Defender Yashdeep Siwach said the team has undergone intensive preparations, focusing on fitness, tactical awareness and technical improvement. He also acknowledged the support of senior defenders, including captain Harmanpreet Singh, Jarmanpreet Singh and Amit Rohidas, for helping him grow in confidence.
Goalkeeper Mohith HS said representing India at the World Cup is a dream come true. Having watched the previous edition from the junior national camp, he now hopes to contribute to India’s bid to end a 51-year wait for the men’s Hockey World Cup title. He added that the squad has struck a healthy balance between youth and experience.
India have been placed in Pool D and will begin their campaign against Wales on August 15, followed by matches against England on August 17 and Pakistan on August 19.
