Governments Must Listen to Youth’s Concerns with Empathy, Says Ravi Inder Singh

Chandigarh, July 25, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Patron of Shiromani Akali Dal Punar-Surjeet and former Punjab Assembly Speaker Ravi Inder Singh on Saturday said the country’s youth are its future and governments should address their grievances with empathy instead of attempting to suppress them through police action.

In a statement, Ravi Inder Singh said the peaceful gathering of students from across the country at Jantar Mantar to raise their demands reflected the strength of democracy. He said such movements should not be viewed as a challenge but as a sign of an aware and responsible younger generation.

Referring to repeated examination paper leak incidents, he said they had severely eroded the confidence of hardworking students in the system. He maintained that the government should have chosen dialogue over the use of force to restore their trust.

Ravi Inder Singh further said that despite social activist Sonam Wangchuk’s support for the students, the government was eventually compelled to accept their demands. He claimed that had the Union Education Minister been removed earlier to fix accountability, the government could have avoided the ensuing embarrassment and unrest.

He also urged the government to apologise to the families of students who allegedly died by suicide and those who were injured during the agitation. He called for adequate compensation for the affected families and measures to help them recover from their suffering.

Congratulating the students, Ravi Inder Singh praised them for conducting the movement peacefully and in a disciplined manner, saying their success reflected the power of democratic and non-violent protest.
