Candidates who cleared the Preliminary and Main examinations for the recruitment of 1,799 Bihar Police Sub-Inspectors (SI) staged a protest at Gardanibagh in Patna on Wednesday, demanding the immediate announcement of dates for the Physical Efficiency Test (PET).
Carrying placards, the protesters urged the Bihar Police Subordinate Services Commission (BPSSC) and the state government to release the PET schedule without further delay.
The candidates said they had successfully cleared both the Preliminary and Main examinations and were now waiting for the PET, the next stage in the recruitment process.
They alleged that repeated delays in announcing the PET dates had created uncertainty about their future despite their extensive preparation and hard work.
The protesters also accused certain student leaders and coaching centre operators of attempting to get the recruitment examination cancelled. They claimed that cancellation would force successful candidates to restart their preparations and could potentially benefit coaching centres and operators offering examination-related courses.
These allegations were made by the protesting candidates and have not been independently established.
The candidates said that any investigation into alleged irregularities, if underway, should be allowed to proceed, but maintained that it should not unnecessarily jeopardise the future of lakhs of aspirants who have already progressed through the recruitment process.
They appealed to the Bihar government and the BPSSC to take a prompt decision on the PET schedule while taking into account the candidates’ years of preparation and the progress already made in the recruitment process.
The protesters warned that they would intensify their agitation if the PET dates were not announced soon. They also said they could launch a hunger strike if their demand remained unaddressed.
The candidates are now awaiting a response from the state government and the BPSSC on the next stage of the recruitment process.
Patna has witnessed several student protests in recent weeks over various competitive examinations, including demonstrations linked to the NEET-UG paper leak case.
