Iran’s IRGC Claims Attacks on Two US Vessels, Eight Oil Tankers in Persian Gulf

Tehran, September 9, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on Wednesday claimed that its naval forces attacked two US vessels and eight oil tankers in the Persian Gulf in retaliation for a US strike on five Iranian oil tankers.

In a statement published by its official news outlet Sepah News, the IRGC said its navy struck the vessels and inflicted heavy damage in response to what it described as the “terrorist US Army’s aggression” and its attack on five Iranian oil tankers in the Persian Gulf on Tuesday night.

The IRGC said its naval forces also targeted 10 “violating” ships that attempted to cross what it called a “prohibited and unsafe zone” in the Strait of Hormuz with US military support and provocation.

The force said its navy was exercising complete management and control over the Strait of Hormuz.

The IRGC also announced on Wednesday that its aerospace forces had attacked a US air base in Jordan in retaliation for what it described as “aggressive” US attacks on Iranian oil tankers.

Jordan’s military said its air defence systems intercepted and destroyed 18 of 20 Iranian ballistic missiles. Two missiles fell in unpopulated areas and caused no casualties, according to the military.

Meanwhile, the US Central Command said in a social media post that its forces had “destroyed five Iranian crude oil carriers” on Tuesday night after the IRGC targeted a US Navy warship with ballistic missiles twice over the previous two days.

“The US warship successfully evaded the attempted Iranian attacks and continued to patrol regional waters. No American personnel were harmed,” it said.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio warned Iran on Tuesday that Washington would continue striking Iranian oil tankers in response to attempted attacks on US warships.

“Iran continues to try to hit US naval ships, and for every time they do that or try to do that, they’re going to lose tankers,” Rubio said during a visit to Colombia.

According to Iranian media, the IRGC also issued an evacuation warning to crews of oil tankers at piers in Kuwait and Bahrain following the US attacks on Iranian oil tankers off Iran’s southern coast on Tuesday night.

Earlier on Tuesday, the IRGC Navy claimed that its forces had captured one of the US Army’s “most modern, smart” unmanned submarines at the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz.

Following the claim, the US military said one of its underwater drones had “malfunctioned” more than a day earlier while conducting a survey of regional waters. The US statement did not say whether the device had been seized by Iran.
