Yemen’s Houthi group on Wednesday claimed that Saudi-led coalition warplanes carried out 32 airstrikes across four Yemeni provinces amid escalating fighting between the Houthis and government forces.
According to Houthi-run Al-Masirah TV, the strikes were conducted across Marib, Al-Jawf, Taiz and Hodeidah provinces over the past few hours. The broadcaster did not specify the targets and did not immediately report any casualties or damage.
Saudi Arabia has not issued an immediate comment on the reported strikes.
A military official on the ground told Xinhua that the airstrikes targeted areas controlled by the Houthis and provided air support to government forces amid ongoing ground fighting.
The latest reports follow four airstrikes carried out by the Saudi-led coalition in Marib province on Tuesday, according to Al-Masirah. The strikes reportedly targeted Al-Jubah district in the southern part of the oil-rich province, with no immediate reports of casualties or damage.
The reported escalation came hours after Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Sarea claimed that the group had launched dozens of ballistic missiles and drones at Saudi Aramco facilities in Abha, Najran and Jazan, as well as King Khalid Air Base near Khamis Mushait. Sarea said the Houthis would continue operations “deep inside Saudi territory.”
Saudi authorities said the Houthi attacks targeted civilian and economic facilities in Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jazan and Najran, injuring 73 people, including women and children.
The Saudi Energy Ministry said the attacks also triggered fires and temporarily halted operations at some energy facilities.
The escalation comes as fighting between Yemen’s government forces and the Houthis intensifies across multiple fronts. Government forces said on Tuesday that they had retaken the Al-Yatmah area in northern Al-Jawf province.
Clashes have also continued in western Yemen, where fierce fighting has been reported as Houthi forces push towards government-held areas near the strategically important Bab al-Mandab Strait.
Yemen has been embroiled in conflict since late 2014, when the Houthis seized Sanaa and large parts of northern Yemen. A Saudi-led coalition intervened the following year in support of the internationally recognised Yemeni government.
