Dr. Sapna Nanda, Principal of Government College of Education, Sector 20-D, Chandigarh, has been unanimously elected as a Senator of Panjab University for the 2026–2030 term.
She was elected from Chandigarh colleges in the Panjab University Senate elections for the election of three Ordinary Fellows by the Principals of the Technical and Professional Colleges Constituency. Her result was the first to be announced in the election.
The Panjab University Senate is the university’s supreme governing body and is responsible for major academic, administrative, financial and policy decisions. It plays a key role in shaping the university’s vision, safeguarding its autonomy and ensuring effective governance. The Senate comprises elected representatives from various constituencies, along with ex-officio and nominated members.
Senate elections are held every four years, allowing members of the university community to elect representatives to the university’s highest decision-making body.
In the current elections, three Ordinary Fellows were elected from the Principals of the Technical and Professional Colleges Constituency. Dr. Nanda’s unanimous election reflects the confidence placed in her by the electorate and marks a significant milestone in her academic and professional career.
Expressing gratitude for the support, Dr. Nanda thanked the electorate for reposing their trust in her. She said she would work towards strengthening academic excellence, promoting transparency, safeguarding the interests of teachers, students and employees, and contributing to the overall development of Panjab University.

She emphasised the need to strengthen the voice of affiliated technical and professional colleges in the university’s decision-making process and to work collectively for the advancement of higher education.
