The Anti-Auto Theft Squad (AATS) of Delhi Police’s Outer North District has busted an inter-state illegal arms network with the arrest of an active member of the Sonu Dariyapur gang and the recovery of eight country-made pistols and 20 live rounds.
The accused, identified as 22-year-old Anurag alias Hunny, was initially arrested with an illegal country-made pistol. During interrogation, he allegedly disclosed that the weapon had been procured from an illegal arms supplier operating from Talaspur Khurd in Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh district.
Acting on the information, a Delhi Police team travelled to Talaspur Khurd and conducted a raid at a house on the accused’s instance. A clandestine arms manufacturing setup was found on the rooftop, from where seven additional country-made pistols and 20 live rounds of 8 mm calibre were recovered.
Police said six of the seven pistols were in semi-finished condition, indicating that illegal firearm manufacturing was being carried out at the premises.
The operation was conducted on the directions of Joint Commissioner of Police, Northern Range, Vijay Singh, under the guidance of Additional DCP-I, Outer North District, Lokeshwaran R., and the close supervision of ACP/Operations Dinesh Kumar.
Police said the operation followed specific information received by Constable Sachin of AATS/Outer North District on September 2 that Anurag, an active member of the Sonu Dariyapur gang, would arrive near Shahpur Gaddi on the Bhorgarh-Narela Road carrying an illegal weapon.
A raiding team led by Inspector Anand Kumar Jhaa, IC/AATS/Outer North District, along with SI Dimpy Gulia, Head Constables Netram, Deepak and Naveen Hooda, and Constable Sachin, was formed. The team subsequently apprehended Anurag, a resident of Jain Colony near Barwala, and recovered a country-made pistol from his possession.
Following the recovery, FIR No. 502/2026 was registered at Police Station NIA, Delhi, on September 2 under Sections 25/54/59 of the Arms Act, and Anurag was arrested.
Police said the accused has two previous involvements in criminal cases. Further investigation is underway to establish the wider links of the alleged inter-state arms supply network.
