The Amritsar Commissionerate Police has dismantled three interconnected drug and illegal arms supply syndicates, arresting eight operatives and seizing substantial quantities of narcotics and weaponry. The operation yielded 9.549 kilograms of heroin, 5.459 kilograms of opium, and an illegal .30-bore pistol.
Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav stated that the crackdown forms part of the state government’s ongoing initiative to secure Punjab. According to preliminary findings, the suspects maintained operational ties with overseas-based smugglers, utilizing cross-border drone drops to procure narcotics and firearms for regional distribution.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Rajinder Singh (27) of Indira Colony; Vinay (26) of Gawal Mandi; Pradeep Singh (37) of village Varnali Harsha Chhina; Karan Singh alias Karan (24), Navneet alias Keeda (18), and Jashandeep Singh alias Dhuni (19), all residents of village Attari; Baljinder Singh (37) of Baba Budha Singh Colony; and Amrit Pal Singh alias Amrit (25) of village Boparai Baaz Singh in Amritsar Rural.
Commissioner of Police (CP) Amritsar Harmanbir Singh Gill outlined the execution of the three targeted operations that led to the arrests.
The first operation began with the apprehension of Rajinder Singh based on actionable intelligence, resulting in the recovery of a .30-bore pistol. Interrogation of Rajinder led law enforcement to his associate Vinay, from whom 4.2 kilograms of opium were seized. Further disclosures by Vinay facilitated the arrest of Pradeep Singh, yielding an additional 1.2 kilograms of opium.
In a separate operation, police intercepted Karan Singh alias Karan, recovering 7 kilograms of heroin. Subsequent inquiries led to the apprehension of his associates, Navneet Singh and Jashandeep Singh.
A third operation resulted in the arrest of Baljinder Singh and Amritpal Singh, from whom officers recovered 2.5 kilograms of heroin alongside a motorcycle used in their operations.
Authorities have registered three separate criminal cases at local police stations: FIR No. 166 dated September 10, 2026, under Section 25 of the Arms Act and Sections 18-B and 29 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Cantonment; FIR No. 132 dated September 11, 2026, under Sections 21-C and 29 of the NDPS Act at Police Station A-Division; and FIR No. 211 dated September 12, 2026, under Sections 21, 21-C, and 29 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Chheharta.
DGP Yadav noted that investigations remain underway to map out complete backward and forward linkages, aiming to identify wider conspirators and completely neutralize the trafficking network.
