Passengers of two SpiceJet flights from Delhi to Dubai faced prolonged delays, with one flight reportedly remaining grounded for more than 24 hours, triggering a protest at Delhi airport on Tuesday.
According to an NDTV report, SpiceJet flight SG 5111 was scheduled to depart at 7:45 a.m. on Monday but faced repeated delays and had not departed by the time of reporting. However, flight-tracking platform Flightradar24 showed the flight as cancelled.
Another flight, SG 5105, scheduled to depart Delhi for Dubai at 6:45 p.m. on Monday, was delayed until Tuesday afternoon, the report said.
Passengers claimed they had not received fresh updates from the airline amid the disruption. Videos circulating on social media showed stranded passengers sitting on the terminal floor and demanding information about their flights.
According to sources cited in the report, Delhi Airport authorities provided food and refreshments to affected passengers and assisted them during the disruption.
SpiceJet attributed the delays to operational issues following the grounding of one of its aircraft.
“SpiceJet flights SG 5111 and SG 5105, operating from Delhi to Dubai, have been delayed due to operational reasons following the grounding of an aircraft,” the airline said in a statement.
The airline said alternate flights were being arranged for affected passengers and apologised for the inconvenience caused.
The disruption comes amid several flight operation issues reported earlier this month due to weather and technical problems.
On Sunday, an Air India flight, AI431, was diverted to Lucknow because of unfavourable weather and poor visibility conditions. Similarly, an Air India flight operating from Bhopal to Delhi on September 13 was diverted to Jaipur because of a technical issue, according to the report.
