Jaipur, November 3, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Dr SN Medical College in Jodhpur has suspended 19 people, including a junior resident, following an inquiry into allegations of ragging, intimidation and misconduct involving first-year MBBS students.

The disciplinary action comes shortly after Government Medical College in Barmer suspended 80 students over a separate ragging case, bringing renewed attention to complaints of harassment of junior students at medical institutions in Rajasthan.

At Jodhpur, five individuals, including the junior resident, have been suspended for three months, while the remaining 14 students face suspension for one month.

During the penalty period, those suspended will not be allowed to participate in clinical postings, academic activities or educational programmes. They have also been barred from entering college hostels, libraries and reading rooms.

The action followed a complaint submitted through the University Grants Commission’s (UGC) anti-ragging helpline. The college’s anti-ragging committee conducted an inquiry and reportedly found the individuals responsible for serious misconduct, indecent behaviour and exerting undue pressure on junior students. The Principal’s office subsequently issued the suspension orders.

According to the complaint, first-year students alleged that seniors from the 2025 batch intimidated and humiliated them and imposed arbitrary restrictions, including requirements to remain clean-shaven, follow specified hairstyles, stand for prolonged periods and wear formal clothes.

The dispute reportedly surfaced during a Clean Campus Drive on the college premises on October 28. The juniors approached the UGC helpline following the incident, prompting the college to initiate an investigation.

The latest action is reportedly the second ragging complaint at the Jodhpur medical college within a month.

In the separate Barmer case, 80 students were penalised after an inquiry into allegations that seniors sent obscene messages through WhatsApp and subjected juniors to verbal abuse and mental harassment.
