New Delhi, November 2, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) on Monday invoked Stage II of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) across Delhi-NCR with immediate effect after Delhi’s daily average Air Quality Index (AQI) reached 324, falling in the ‘Very Poor’ category.
The CAQM sub-committee reviewed the air quality situation and forecasts from the India Meteorological Department and the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, which indicated that Delhi’s air quality was likely to remain ‘Very Poor’ over the coming days. Stage II measures will operate alongside the Stage I restrictions already in force.
Under the new measures, agencies must intensify mechanical and vacuum sweeping of identified roads, water sprinkling with dust suppressants, particularly before peak traffic hours, and targeted action at pollution hotspots. Inspections to enforce dust-control norms at construction and demolition sites will also be stepped up.
Authorities have been asked to improve parking facilities to discourage private vehicle use. Resident Welfare Associations must provide electric heaters and adequate electricity to security, sanitation and other staff to prevent open burning of biomass and municipal waste during winter.
The Delhi government and NCR state governments have also been asked to stagger the timings of public offices and municipal bodies in Delhi, Gurugram, Faridabad, Ghaziabad and Gautam Buddha Nagar. Other NCR states may consider similar measures, while the Centre may examine staggered timings for its offices in the region.
CAQM has urged residents to use public transport or car-pooling, minimise private vehicle use and avoid burning leaves, garbage or biomass. Pollution control boards and the Delhi Pollution Control Committee have been directed to ensure strict implementation of all Stage I and II measures. The Commission said it would continue monitoring air quality and review the situation regularly.
