The Odisha government on Sunday announced a reshuffle of senior police officers, transferring Director General of Prisons Susanta Kumar Nath and posting him as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the Home Department.
The transfer comes amid a complaint by a former woman jailor of Choudwar Circle Jail, who has accused Nath of sexual harassment and criminal intimidation. A case was registered at Choudwar police station on October 31 following her written complaint. The allegations are under investigation and have not been established.
Under the reshuffle, 1995-batch IPS officer Santosh Bala, who heads the State Forensic Science Laboratory, will continue to hold additional charge as Additional Director General of Prisons and Director of Correctional Services.
Amitabh Thakur, a 1998-batch IPS officer serving as Transport Commissioner, has been relieved of his additional responsibility as ADG (Prisons) and will continue solely in his transport department role.
Another 1998-batch officer, Rajesh Kumar, currently ADG of the Special Armed Police, will retain the additional charge of Special Secretary in the Home Department.
The government has also repatriated 2010-batch IPS officer Sarah Sharma from central deputation and posted her as Deputy Inspector General of Police (Vigilance).
In other changes, 2019-batch IPS officer Gundala Reddy Raghavendra has been transferred from Jharsuguda Superintendent of Police to Assistant Inspector General of Police at the State Police Headquarters in Cuttack.
Amritpal Singh, a 2021-batch IPS officer, has been shifted from Nuapada SP to SP at the State Police Headquarters.
