Megastar Amitabh Bachchan has revealed that he deliberately avoids criticising son Abhishek Bachchan at home, believing that the actor already faces enough scrutiny from the outside world.
The veteran actor shared his approach to parenting during a conversation with Ranbir Kapoor on the quiz reality show Kaun Banega Crorepati. The two actors discussed father-son relationships, family support and how parents respond to their children’s professional setbacks.
During the interaction, Ranbir recalled growing up with Abhishek and asked Amitabh whether he openly shared his opinions about his son’s choices or conveyed them through his wife, Jaya Bachchan.
Responding to the question, Amitabh said he did not want to become another critic in Abhishek’s life, particularly when public criticism was already part of the actor’s professional experience.
“There are thousands and crores of people out there to criticise him. It wouldn’t feel right if he had one more critic at home,” Amitabh said.
He explained that whenever Abhishek’s films failed to perform, he chose to reassure him rather than point out mistakes, reminding him that more films and opportunities would come his way.
The Sholay actor said he had always offered his son blessings and encouragement instead of telling him that he had done something wrong.
Amitabh also acknowledged that Abhishek and others have sometimes felt that criticism is necessary because it helps identify mistakes and provides an opportunity for improvement. However, he said he had consciously avoided taking that approach at home.
Abhishek has appeared in films such as Yuva, Sarkar, Bluffmaster!, Guru, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, Zameen and Bol Bachchan, earning recognition for a range of performances during his career.
