Telugu cinema megastar Chiranjeevi, accompanied by his actor-son Ram Charan, met Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday to raise concerns over the growing misuse of artificial intelligence (AI) and deepfake technology to create objectionable and morphed videos targeting artists.
The meeting follows Chiranjeevi’s recent public concern on social media platform X over the circulation of degrading and manipulated videos involving members of the film fraternity.
According to sources close to the actors, Chiranjeevi had sought the appointment to personally highlight how the misuse of AI-generated content and deepfake technology threatens artists’ dignity, rights and creative work.
Representing concerns of the film industry, he reportedly urged the Union Home Minister to introduce stronger safeguards and ensure strict action against individuals exploiting these technologies to target artists.
Sources said Amit Shah heard the concerns and assured the actors that the government would examine the issue urgently and work towards stronger protections and stringent penalties against such misuse.
The Home Minister also advised Chiranjeevi to submit a written representation and entrusted Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy with coordinating the matter.
Expressing gratitude for the response, Chiranjeevi reportedly described the assurance as an encouraging development for the film fraternity and expressed hope that it would translate into meaningful safeguards.
Ram Charan also shared details of the meeting on Instagram, expressing appreciation for the Home Minister’s understanding and positive response.
“His assurance that the Government will examine the matter urgently and work towards stronger safeguards and strict action against such misuse is truly encouraging,” Ram Charan wrote, thanking Shah for his time and support.
The meeting marks an effort by prominent members of the film industry to take the issue beyond social media appeals and seek government intervention against the growing threat posed by AI-generated impersonation, manipulated videos and deepfakes.
