White House Counts India Among Trump’s ‘Secured’ Trade Deals Despite Pact Yet to Be Signed

Washington, November 3, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

The White House has included India among the countries with which US President Donald Trump has “secured new and improved trade agreements”, although the interim trade pact announced by the two countries in February has yet to be formally signed.

The claim features in a White House document titled President Trump’s Second Term: Promises Made, Promises Kept, Results Delivered, published on Monday, the final day of campaigning ahead of Tuesday’s US midterm elections. The document lists 127 initiatives that the administration describes as promises fulfilled.

“By using tariffs as leverage, President Trump secured new and improved trade agreements with major U.S. trading partners covering more than half of global GDP,” the document says, naming the United Kingdom, European Union, Japan, China, India, South Korea and several Southeast Asian countries.

The reference to India links to a February White House fact sheet titled The United States and India Announce Historic Trade Deal.

However, the joint statement issued by the two governments on February 6 described the arrangement as a framework for an interim agreement, with both sides committing to work towards its finalisation and a broader bilateral trade agreement.

Under the proposed framework, India was to eliminate or reduce tariffs on all US industrial goods and a range of American agricultural products. Washington, in turn, agreed to impose an 18 per cent reciprocal tariff on Indian goods.

The US also agreed to remove reciprocal tariffs on certain products, including generic pharmaceuticals, gems and diamonds, and aircraft parts, subject to the successful conclusion of the interim agreement.

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said on October 15 that the first tranche of the agreement had been finalised and was undergoing legal drafting. Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal also said the same day that the agreement would be signed and implemented after legal vetting, but did not specify a timeline.

The White House document’s description of the India arrangement as a secured trade agreement therefore comes even as the formal signing process remains incomplete.

The 127-point list covers the Trump administration’s record on immigration, the economy, energy and foreign policy, as Republicans seek to retain control of both chambers of Congress in the midterm elections.
