Punjabi singer Jazzy B has withdrawn from a scheduled ceremonial puck drop with the Vancouver Canucks following the death of his nephew, Divit Aulakh, saying his family needs him during the difficult period of mourning.
The singer, known for tracks such as Dil Luteya, shared an emotional message on Instagram, expressing his grief over the loss.
“My heart is broken as our family mourns the devastating loss of my beloved nephew, Divit Aulakh,” he wrote.
Announcing his decision to skip the event scheduled for Wednesday, Jazzy B said he would be unable to participate in the ceremony. He also thanked his fans and well-wishers for their prayers, love and understanding.
In an earlier post, the singer had expressed his anguish over the tragedy, writing, “No words can describe how I’m feeling right now,” while remembering his nephew as “Sada putar Divit”.
Divit, also identified as Vidit Aulakh, was the nephew of rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh. He died in a road accident in Jalandhar, Punjab, in the early hours of Sunday, November 1.
According to reports, Divit was travelling in a car with a friend after attending a birthday celebration when their vehicle crashed into a stationary Municipal Corporation tractor-trailer near the Police Lines flyover at around 3 a.m. The vehicle had reportedly been deployed for routine cleaning and sanitation work.
The impact left the car severely damaged, and both occupants died at the spot.
Honey Singh cut short his stay in Dubai and travelled to Jalandhar following the tragedy to be with his family and offer support.
