Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Monday accused the Congress of using an AI-generated photograph to exaggerate the turnout at the INDIA Bloc rally held at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan on Sunday.
Reacting to an image shared by a Congress MP from Telangana, Rijiju alleged that the photograph had been artificially created to make the venue appear packed.
“Even the fake AI photo to show that Ramlila ground was full is not done properly by the fake narrative team of Congress Party!” he wrote on X, sharing the image in question.
The photograph, which depicted a large crowd at the rally, was also questioned by several social media users, who claimed it was AI-generated. The image appeared to show Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi on a stage that differed from the actual event setup.
The row over the photograph has added to the political confrontation between the BJP and Congress over attendance at the INDIA Bloc’s ‘Chalo Dilli’ rally, organised to demand the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
The BJP had described the rally as a “flop show”, disputing the Congress claim that 10 lakh people attended. Addressing a press conference after the event, BJP MP Sambit Patra showed a video of the venue and claimed that around 40 per cent of the ground was vacant.
Patra also claimed that 5,000 to 7,000 of the 28,000 chairs arranged for the rally were unoccupied between 3.30 pm and 4 pm. He questioned the Congress leadership’s attendance estimates and accused the party of using “trick photography” to project a larger gathering.
The Congress’s claim of a 10-lakh turnout and the BJP’s counter-claims have remained at the centre of the political exchange following the rally.
