New Delhi, November 2, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Maulana Jarjis has faced strong criticism from several Islamic scholars over his reported comparison of Uttar Pradesh with Palestine, with community leaders calling the remark irresponsible, reprehensible and an attempt to attract media attention.

The controversy followed a statement made on October 29, in which Jarjis allegedly expressed concern over divisions within the Muslim community and warned that Uttar Pradesh could turn into Palestine after the Assembly elections. Videos of his remarks have since circulated widely on social media.

Shia Chand Committee Chairman Maulana Saif Abbas Naqvi dismissed the comments as an attempt to remain in the media through controversy. “The Maulvi Sahib always comes up with controversial statements, and he wants to stay in the media by giving these controversial statements,” he said.

Rejecting claims that Muslims were living in fear in Uttar Pradesh, Naqvi added, “If a Muslim is scared, then he fears only Allah, nobody else.” He also described invoking Palestine in this context as regrettable and reprehensible, saying the country was governed by its laws and Constitution.

Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi Barelvi, national president of the All India Muslim Jamaat, also strongly condemned the remarks. He said people in Uttar Pradesh would never allow the state to become Palestine and that no part of India could become Palestine as long as the Constitution remained in force. He further alleged that Jarjis was attempting to frighten Muslims and demanded a ban on his statements and legal action.

Islamic leader Mohammad Jameel Hayat also criticised the remarks, urging Jarjis to exercise caution with his words. He said the comments were inappropriate for Uttar Pradesh and claimed that Jarjis had a history of using objectionable language.

Jarjis has faced controversies previously. Earlier this year, his comments about Hindu deities Lord Krishna and Lord Ram drew widespread condemnation. He had described Lord Krishna as “five-time namazis” and claimed that the Hindu deities propagated Islamic ideals.
