Kota, November 2, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
A minor student from Uttar Pradesh, who had been preparing for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) through online coaching in Kota for about a year, died by suicide in his hostel room on Monday, police said.
The incident took place at City Park Residency in Rajiv Gandhi Nagar under the Jawahar Nagar police station limits. Other hostel residents became suspicious after the student failed to respond to repeated knocks. They broke open the door and found him dead in the bathroom. Police recovered a note bearing the words, “sorry, mom and dad.”
DSP Manish Sharma said the body was shifted to the mortuary at MBS Hospital. Jawahar Nagar SHO Mukesh Meena said the student’s family in Uttar Pradesh had been informed and was expected to reach Kota on Tuesday. The room has been sealed and will be opened in the family’s presence.
Police said the hostel rooms were equipped with anti-suicide rods, but the student had allegedly ordered a gym-style metal rod online and used it in the incident. They also found that his attendance had not been taken at breakfast and no follow-up was made when he failed to appear.
The reason behind the student’s death remains unknown. Police said the post-mortem examination and further legal procedures would be carried out after the family arrives, and the investigation is continuing.
