A Special CBI Court in Lucknow has sentenced a former junior engineer of the Uttar Pradesh Irrigation Department to three years’ rigorous imprisonment in a case involving the publication and transmission of child sexual abuse and exploitative material (CSAEM).
In its October 31 judgment, the court sentenced Rambhawan, the then junior engineer, to three years’ rigorous imprisonment with a fine. Co-accused Nilesh Baliram Gore, a private individual, was sentenced to one year’s rigorous imprisonment with a fine, the CBI said.
The CBI registered the case on April 23, 2022, over allegations of collecting, transmitting and publishing CSAEM through online platforms. During the investigation, searches were conducted in Bhusawal and Jalgaon in Maharashtra, and digital devices were seized and examined. The agency filed a chargesheet against both accused on December 30, 2022. Charges were framed on July 21, 2026, followed by their conviction after trial.
In a separate case, the CBI registered an FIR over an alleged fraud of Rs 10.24 crore involving customer accounts at a Punjab National Bank branch in Greater Noida’s Sector Pi.
An internal inquiry reportedly found suspicious transactions and the alleged involvement of a bank employee and others. Preliminary findings suggest that a female employee allegedly used the user IDs and passwords of other bank officials to make unauthorised transfers from customer accounts to accounts linked to her associates. The alleged irregularities reportedly went undetected for nearly three years.
