Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi made her Instagram debut on Thursday, sharing the first look of her upcoming memoir, Belonging: A Journey of Love, which is scheduled for worldwide release on November 10.
In her first post, Gandhi welcomed followers and described the book as a personal account of love, duty, loss and the search for belonging.
“Hello everyone, I’m truly grateful to share this moment with you all: the first look of Belonging: A Journey of Love. It is a story of love, duty, loss, and finding a place to belong. I look forward to sharing it with you,” she wrote.
A video accompanying the post shows Gandhi receiving the first copies of the memoir and sharing sweets with her daughter, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. The two were also seen embracing.
Gandhi, who had not previously maintained a social media account, had attracted more than 10,700 followers by Thursday. She follows her children, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, as well as the Indian National Congress.
The memoir will be published globally by Alfred A. Knopf, while HarperCollins India will handle its release in the country. Pre-orders have opened ahead of the November 10 launch.
Announcing the publication on X, HarperCollins India described the book as a deeply personal account of love, identity, duty and belonging, offering an insider’s perspective on India’s journey.
The book’s publishing arrangements had earlier drawn attention following reports that Penguin Random House India had declined to publish it over disagreements concerning editorial changes.
Penguin Random House India subsequently clarified that it was not the publisher of Belonging. The publishing house also said that suggestions about editorial changes were a normal part of the publishing process and that it had remained willing to publish the memoir. It declined to comment further on confidential discussions with the author.
