Delhi Police have summoned Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) leaders Saurav Das, Ashutosh Ranka and Ajinkya Shinde for questioning on Thursday in connection with the October 13 protest at Jantar Mantar.
The three have been asked to appear before the Delhi Police Crime Branch at its Rajouri Garden office at noon.
The summons come a day after Das and Ranka were released from Tihar Jail following a week in judicial custody. Earlier this week, Delhi Police transferred the cases against the CJP leaders to the Crime Branch for further investigation.
The cases relate to allegations that Das, Ranka, Shinde and 11 others trespassed into Jantar Mantar, which has been de-notified as a designated protest site. All 14 were detained by police. Shinde was subsequently released on a bail bond, while Das and Ranka remained in judicial custody.
The CJP members had gathered to protest alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and raised slogans against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Das and Ranka were released on Wednesday after submitting written undertakings before Special Executive Magistrate (SEM) Ritu Raj, assuring that they would maintain peace and refrain from calling for protests at Jantar Mantar until the site is de-notified in accordance with the law.
The magistrate directed their release after they furnished personal bonds and surety bonds of Rs 50,000 each, which will remain in force until the conclusion of the inquiry into the alleged trespassing.
In their undertakings, both activists pledged not to breach the peace and expressed faith in the judiciary and its institutions, including the SEM court.
The SEM court observed that the immediate preventive measures under Section 135(3) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), intended to prevent a breach of peace or disturbance of public tranquillity, could be secured through the bonds and written undertakings.
The Crime Branch is now handling the cases as the investigation continues.
