Actress Mahhi Vij has revealed that she refused to accept alimony from estranged husband Jay Bhanushali during their divorce proceedings, even after the judge reportedly asked her four times to reconsider the decision.
Mahhi became emotional while discussing her daughter Tara, financial independence and her determination to secure her child’s future in the latest episode of Bigg Boss.
“I am a single mother. I know how my day goes. Jay pushes me to go out and live my life. He says, ‘You go out, you don’t go anywhere. You sit at home for Tara’. My life revolves around my child. Do you know? I did not take a single alimony. I do everything on my own so that my child’s life is secure,” she said.
Explaining her decision, Mahhi said she considered the money to be the result of Jay’s hard work and did not feel comfortable accepting it.
“I was standing in the court, and the judge asked me four times to take the alimony. I didn’t take it. I have seen Jay has earned it,” she said.
She clarified that her decision was not prompted by any refusal from Jay, adding that he had never stopped her from accessing his money.
“Not that he has asked me not to take anything. I know his entire locker is open for me. But still. I don’t think so. He has worked hard. He has been standing on sets, working for 16 hours. It’s his hard-earned money,” Mahhi said.
Her emotional disclosure came amid a disagreement with fellow contestant Arishfa. The argument followed Mahhi’s support for Qazi during his dispute with Arishfa, who had spilled water on the beds of Kanika, Gullu and Mahhi after they nominated her for eviction.
Mahhi said she had wanted to resolve the issue calmly and had always viewed Arishfa as she would her own daughter, Tara. However, she expressed hurt over what she described as Arishfa’s behaviour and repeated humiliation. Mahhi broke down in tears as fellow contestants Yung, Asif and Scout tried to comfort her.
