Singer Mika Singh has questioned Uttarakhand Cabinet Minister Subodh Uniyal over his claim that singer Daler Mehndi was paid ₹35 lakh for a recent Navratri event but appeared to lip-sync rather than perform live.
Responding to the minister on social media on Wednesday, Mika asked whether the payment had been made in cash or by cheque and challenged him to make the payment receipts public so that the facts could be established.
“Sir, did you give ₹35 lakh in cash or by cheque? If you have the payment receipts, please share them publicly so that everyone can know the truth,” Mika wrote in a post on X.
The controversy began after Uniyal told the media that Daler Mehndi had been invited to the event because of his standing in the music industry. However, the minister claimed that during the performance, it appeared the singer was lip-syncing despite being paid ₹35 lakh for his appearance.
Uniyal said he was facing pressure from the public to address the issue in his capacity as a local representative and a member of the fair committee.
Mika’s response comes a day after he publicly defended his elder brother against allegations concerning his condition during the event. The singer challenged anyone to prove that Daler Mehndi consumed alcohol, saying he would quit singing if such a claim were established.
In a video shared on social media, Mika argued that artists sometimes honour professional commitments even when they are unwell, particularly after agreeing to perform at an event.
He suggested that Daler Mehndi might similarly have gone ahead with the performance despite not feeling well, pointing out that performers often fulfil prior commitments regardless of the circumstances.
The dispute has brought the circumstances surrounding the performance and the reported ₹35 lakh payment into focus. The claims about lip-syncing remain allegations, while Mika has called for documentary evidence to clarify the payment.
