The innovative four-innings Masters Pro T20 league was launched on Monday, aiming to reinvent the Legends cricket experience with a distinctive format designed to offer a fresh sporting and entertainment proposition for players, fans and other stakeholders.
The league introduces a four-innings format that distinguishes it from existing Legends cricket competitions, with a focus on creating a new viewing experience for spectators.
Under the format, both teams will bat in two separate innings of 10 overs each, drawing inspiration from Test cricket. The team with the higher aggregate score across its two innings will be declared the winner.
The format also includes a provision for a Super Sub, allowing each team to replace one player from its original playing XI. The substitution can be made only after both teams have completed their first innings, creating additional scope for tactical decisions.
Avishek Mazumdar, Founding Partner of Fanwizz Private Limited, said the company aimed to develop distinctive sporting properties that generate sustainable, long-term value for all stakeholders, particularly franchise owners and fans.
“Fanwizz aims to build distinctive sporting properties that create sustainable, long-term value for all stakeholders, particularly franchise owners and fans.
“With Masters Pro T20, we seek to combine innovation and a premium sporting experience with a robust commercial model that delivers meaningful engagement and long-term return potential for franchises, sponsors and partners, while aspiring to establish a leading position in legends cricket,” he said.
Fanwizz co-founder Salman Khan said the league would bring a fresh approach to the sports business, with a strong focus on audience engagement.
“As a new venture, Fanwizz will approach the sports business with fresh thinking and a strong focus on the audience. With Masters Pro T20, we want to create more than a tournament; we want to build an engaging experience around legends cricket that fans, players and partners can connect with season after season,” Khan said.
The four-innings structure is also intended to give teams another opportunity to recover from setbacks within a match. The format offers additional tactical possibilities involving batting, bowling and the Super Sub, while drawing on the challenge of managing two innings in Test cricket.
Through its combination of a shortened multi-innings format and strategic substitutions, Masters Pro T20 aims to offer a different approach to Legends cricket while creating an engaging experience for fans and commercial partners.
