New Delhi, October 19, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka are scheduled to appear before a Special Executive Magistrate (SEM) at 2 p.m. on Monday, following the expiry of their five-day judicial custody in a case linked to alleged trespassing at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi.
Ratna Singh, the party’s head of legal affairs, said the two leaders would be produced before the magistrate after their custody ended. In a post on X, she expressed hope that the proceedings would not face further delays, referring to alleged communication difficulties and other obstacles during the process.
Das and Ranka were sent to five-day judicial custody on October 14 after being detained in connection with the alleged trespassing case. They were among 14 people detained on October 13, along with CJP member Ajinkya Shinde, after allegedly entering the protest site through private premises and obstructing police personnel from performing their duties.
Delhi Police had cited alleged repeated violations of the law and the possibility of further breaches or incitement if the two were released. Shinde was released on a personal bond and directed to maintain peace and good behaviour for six months.
The CJP members had been protesting against the Election Commission of India over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and had raised slogans against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Earlier, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke, along with Das and Ranka, had been released in connection with an October 10 protest after furnishing a bond of Rs 50,000, subject to a condition that they would not be involved in breach-of-peace cases for one year.
Advocate Abhisht Hela, representing the leaders, had challenged the custody order, alleging that it disregarded Supreme Court directions and was passed without proper application of judicial mind.
Delhi Police has said Jantar Mantar was de-notified as a designated protest site from October 12 under Standing Order No. L&O/48/2026. Ramlila Ground, Burari Ground and CBD Ground in East Delhi were identified as alternative venues for protests.
