Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to attend the grand Dussehra celebrations at IP Extension in Delhi on Tuesday, according to sources.
Elaborate arrangements are being made ahead of the Prime Minister’s expected participation, with preparations underway to ensure the smooth conduct of the event.
Dussehra is celebrated across India with religious fervour and enthusiasm, marking the victory of good over evil. A key feature of the festival is the traditional burning of Ravana’s effigies.
Prime Minister Modi has participated in several prominent Dussehra celebrations in the national capital over the years. Last year, however, his scheduled visit to the Dussehra event at Patparganj in East Delhi on October 2 was cancelled due to heavy rainfall.
In 2024, Modi attended the Ramleela celebrations at Parade Ground near Delhi’s Red Fort alongside President Droupadi Murmu. The event was organised by the Shri Dharmik Leela Committee as part of its annual festivities.
The Prime Minister also participated in Ravana Dahan celebrations organised by the Shri Ramleela Society in Dwarka Sector 10 in 2023 and 2019. On these occasions, he performed traditional puja and aarti for artists portraying Lord Rama, Sita, Lakshman and Hanuman as part of the festival’s religious rituals.
In 2022, Modi attended Dussehra celebrations in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, where a historic Deepotsav was organised.
Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to attend a Ravana Dahan programme in Ludhiana, Punjab, on Tuesday evening. Alongside the traditional burning of Ravana’s effigy, an effigy symbolising drug abuse will also be set ablaze.
The programme is expected to draw attention to drug abuse in Punjab and highlight concerns surrounding the issue in the state.
